For over 30 years international school leaders, teachers, and counselors have come together for PTC professional learning experiences. Each day of every program begins with a “pearl of wisdom,” a “nugget of knowledge,” or a “gem of inspiration” from one of the participants. We are delighted to offer our readers around the world these powerful stories, insights, and strategies, all dedicated to our shared mission of ever more and better learning for our children.
In this Pearl, Yaśodā reflects on how easily school leaders can become absorbed in administrative responsibilities and lose sight of the example they set for students. A brief interaction with a three-year-old reminded her that children notice and remember what leaders say and do, even when they are not directly involved in their daily lives. From responding to microaggressions to making thoughtful choices about AI and technology, leaders have opportunities to model the values they want students to develop. As Yaśodā explains, “That’s also a gift because now you have the chance to shape what a lot of children see.” By taking time to reflect on their actions, leaders can turn everyday decisions into lasting lessons for students.
