Project Love is a student-run campaign that attempts to encourage networking between schools around the world and support Chi Heng Foundation (CHF), a non-governmental organization that provides education to the children of parents suffering from AIDS.
The idea for Project Love roots back to the Global Issues Network (GIN) Conference 2010, where GIN members from Shanghai American School, Puxi campus (SAS Puxi) learned that their mission was to network with other schools and meet Chung To, the founder of CHF.
SAS Puxi initiated Project Love by coming up with a specific theme and T-shirt design to connect the schools joining this movement. As corny as it may sound, love is universal and accessible to all ages, so it became the theme.
Our prime fundraiser for CHF is the sale of T-shirts and accessories related to the Chinese symbol for love. In late May, participating schools will provide information about their awareness campaigns and collaborate on how to raise awareness next year—on a discussion board, most likely on Facebook. SAS Puxi has discussed the possibility of a trip with CHF to one of the villages they sponsor, to make for a more direct experience and hopefully to open it up to many people in the future.
To launch Project Love, each GIN member from SAS Puxi was required to invite at least two schools. So far they have received the consent from fellow international schools in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Korea, Japan, and Singapore; many of these are schools we interacted with during the GIN Conference.
In the future, schools other than SAS will be required to invite new supporters, thereby increasing the donations and tightening the international connections.
Students will discuss the future of Project Love with other schools during the annual GIN Conference. This will feature an annual campaign that hopefully brings international schools closer together, and helps GIN members learn how to administer and organize their own campaigns along the way!
