Black History Month

At Washington International School, we're excited to highlight the International-Mindedness, Diversity, and Inclusion (IDI) Profiles initiative. Each month, I have the privilege of engaging in meaningful conversations with members of our community, discussing important topics like Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Diwali, and more. These insightful interviews offer a rich resource for exploring diverse perspectives and fostering ongoing dialogue within our school community.

In celebration of Black History Month, I’m thrilled to share an IDI Profile featuring Lisa McNeill, a valued member of our Washington International School community. In this interview, Lisa reflects on her personal experiences, the significance of Black History Month, and the importance of diversity and inclusion in education. Her insights offer a powerful perspective on fostering a more inclusive and understanding community.

Aldaine Wynter is the inaugural Director of International-Mindedness, Diversity, and Inclusion (IDI) at Washington International School (WIS), a role he assumed in 2023 as the school's first-ever leader in this domain. With a career-spanning leadership in international education and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategy, Aldaine has been instrumental in fostering inclusive school environments across multiple global contexts. Prior to WIS, Aldaine served as Head of Pastoral and Operations at Wetherby Senior School in London, where he also led the school's Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives. Before Wetherby, he was the Global Diversity and Inclusion coordinator at Dwight School London, overseeing DEI initiatives across Dwight campuses in London, New York, Shanghai, Dubai, and Seoul (2020–2022). His work involved developing and executing strategic DEI programs across multiple continents, shaping policies that promoted equity and international-mindedness.

Lisa McNeill is the Assistant Principal of Student Life (Pastoral Care) at Washington International School (WIS) Primary School, a role she has held since 2022. With a strong background in education, Lisa has been instrumental in shaping school culture, behavior management, student leadership, community engagement, and well-being initiatives. Before stepping into her current role, Lisa served as the Director of Co-Curricular Programs, overseeing extended learning opportunities at WIS. She also held the position of coordinator of International-Mindedness, Diversity, and Inclusion (IDI), where she led the development and implementation of key IDI initiatives. Prior to joining WIS, Lisa provided strategic leadership in the district-wide implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) across all District of Columbia Public Schools, ensuring structured support for diverse learners. Her leadership continues to cultivate an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.
