In Aberdeen, a Unique Relocation Indeed

The International School of Aberdeen (ISA) greeted students at its new purpose-built campus last August. The school was forced to move from its original campus to make way for a new road which will bypass Aberdeen City; the move was unique in that the relocation was primarily paid for by the Government, under Scottish law and as compensation for running the new bypass through the existing campus.
A Victorian house (Pitfodels House) is situated on the property, with historical status as recognized by Historic Scotland. The administrative offices and formal entrance are located in this granite building. In addition, the property features a granite tower which is also from the Victorian time period and was built next to the original house on the property.
The two teaching wings consist of a total of 40 general classrooms. Additionally, there are modern science labs, computer labs, performing arts rooms (band, choir, and drama), art studios, specialist and Learning Support rooms, as well as numerous offices and meeting rooms. The new campus also features a 300-seat auditorium, black box theatre, swimming pool, two basketball courts and a small gym, two playing fields, tennis courts, a fitness suite, climbing wall, multi-purpose room, courtyard with classroom planting areas, science bog, and the community gathering area known as “the street.”
The lay out of the school follows the concept of a “town square” and “village green,” with “shops” along the “street” such as a library, theatre, and café. The seating in “the street” has been called the “Starbucks area” and acts as a comfortable gathering area at normal times, but can be arranged to work as a reception area for special events.
Planning for the school started three years ago, with the construction taking two years. The architects for the project were the Aberdeen firm of Halliday, Fraser, Munro (HFM).
HFM have worked with ISA over the last 20 years on several building projects at the original campus. The relatively short planning and construction time were necessitated by the road and the Government’s schedule for developing the bypass, but considerable input from students and staff nevertheless resulted in a building which is the pride of the entire ISA community.

I cannot think of a more exciting, and natural, place for me to live and teach than in Scotland! As an American, proud of my Scottish ancestry, it has been my joy to visit your country two times; and I truly felt that I was "at home" there.

I am a Florida certified teacher, presently certified in the areas of K-6 and History 6-12, and working to include English 6-12 in my credentials. I have taught in all school levels, and my true areas of expertise are American history and government, European history, English grammar and composition, along with the basics of Classical Latin. I also have personal expertise in vocal music and photography, and share a love of all the humanities.

May I send my resume to you for review in connection with any existing teaching vacancies, or anticipated ones in the near future? It would be a dream-come-true for me were I able to combine my love of teaching and your culture!

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
