Alfardan Group Partners with the American School of Doha to Establish Education Center in Kenya
ASD and Alfardan making education a reality The American School of Doha (ASD) officially announces the Alfardan Group as the Sponsor Premier of the Machakos Education Center in Kenya. This sponsorship aligns with the Alfardan Group’s corporate social responsibility in support of global education. Over the last 3 years, the ASD community has collaborated to build a school to make education available to children in the Machakos county of Kenya. The American School of Doha, in collaboration with the ASD National Honor Society (NHS), has pledged to make this education center a reality by fundraising to build The Machakos Education Centre. The development of this education center has been supported by H.E. Ambassador Galma Boru from the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya and has also received a donation by Qatar Airways as the Zebra sponsor. The 100,000 QR donation by Alfardan Group has propelled this project forward with the clearing of land and the laying of the foundation for all of the centers buildings. This achievement could not have been done without the support of Alfardan Group and the ASD school community members who together raised a total of 135,000 QAR through various on-campus projects. The school will continue to raise funds to meet their overall goal of 400,000 QR that is needed to complete this project. Omar Alfardan, President and CEO of the Alfardan Group, said: “Global education is at the core of Alfardan Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility to realize the company’s vision to develop the highest potentials of every human being. This is among the deepest values that Alfardan Group honors in all its engagements and relationships starting from its employees, customers, business partners and most especially the community. The children in Machakos, Kenya deserve a better chance at life and an opportunity to grow into learned individuals capable of giving back to the society in the future.” “The American School of Doha would like to recognize Alfardan Group for their support with ASD service-learning programs and for helping take this project one step forward to completion,” stated Dr. Tom Hawkins, Director of ASD. “The Machakos Education Center is a place where students will have access to education but also a resource where the community can thrive as one.” Please contact Yahaira Pineda at ypineda@asd.edu.qa for information on how to support the establishment of the Machakos Education Center in Kenya. About the American School of Doha The American School of Doha is an independent, U.S accredited, college preparatory community school in Qatar, committed to providing educational excellence through a standards based, internationally enriched American curriculum. ASD students have multiple options such as earning an International Baccalaureate Diploma or taking a full array of Advanced Placement courses concurrent with achieving a standard US diploma.
