Cairo American College’s Young Olympian

Farida Osman
---------------------------------------------
Last summer, Cairo American College (CAC) had the very great honor of having one of our students participate in the 2012 Olympics in London! Farida Osman, a 17-year old Grade 12 student, swam the women’s 50-meter freestyle for her native country, Egypt. Although she did not medal, Farida brought great honor to herself and to her country.
Farida began competitive swimming at the age of 11, and in just one year set national records for junior girls (under 18) in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly. By the age of 14, she established the same two records for the continent of Africa.
But her greatest triumph and most rewarding feat was winning the World Junior titles in both events last year, at the World Championships in Peru. Her pride of country swelled as she stood atop the podium, to become Egypt’s first World Junior Champion.
Her trip to the London Olympics over the summer was thrilling, and Farida looks forward to representing Egypt again at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. She hopes to swim for her country in at least three events in 2016!
Farida is a hard-working young lady, who does very well in her academic pursuits while swimming—wait for it—about 42,000 meters a week! Cairo American College salutes our young Olympian, and we wish Farida the very best in continuing to proudly represent Egypt as one of its star athletes.
