What Is Edible Education at ASD?

“At the root of Edible Education is food and food unites us all,” says Sandra Carden, Edible Education coordinator. She adds, “It’s one of the most important sustainability issues of our time.”

The American School of Dubai’s Edible Education program focuses on global issues with food at its center with students actively growing, cooking, and composting food as well as protecting pollinators. By design, Edible Education is integrated into curricular lessons of all types and focuses on concepts of organic principles, circular economy, systems thinking, and sustainable choices.

In this video, educators, coordinators, and students share the value of learning about food as it connects to current global issues. For the younger students, the program is about exposure to global issues, nature, and celebrating the diversity of life. Older students focus more on sustainable development goals and becoming changemakers and skill-based global citizens.
