My name is Lou-Anne, I am a year 11 student in Utahloy International School of Guangzhou. As a part of my Creativity, Activity and Service component of the IB program, I joined the school newspaper “The Howl.” The idea was to share on-going events happening in the school with our community. I decided to make the current affairs in school more accessible and interesting for students, as they do not like to read a whole article. Design and arts are fields that I take a genuine interest in, so I decided to start making comics. Before joining the school newspaper club, I often drew mini characters and attributed them personality traits. I have now found the opportunity to give these mini characters a little story. When I am creating a comic for the journal, I try to stay topical and suitable for our school’s life, including little inside jokes of our school’s system or environment.
I hope you can also relate to these cartoons and enjoy them; this is a great way to make thinking visible to deconstruct difficult concepts. For the future, I am excited to continue producing small comics in hope to entertain our school’s community
