Pearls of Wisdom: Don’t Venerate the Past, and It is OK to Not Be OK

For over 30 years, international school leaders, teachers, and counselors have come together for PTC professional learning experiences.  Each day of every program begins with a 'pearl of wisdom', a 'nugget of knowledge', or a 'gem of inspiration' from one of the participants.  We are delighted to offer our readers around the world these powerful stories, insights, and strategies, all dedicated to our shared mission of ever more and better learning for our children.

In this Pearl of Wisdom, Heath gives us a “two for one special.”

In his first pearl, he asks us to remember if past events are actually as perfect as we remember, or if we tend to put a positive sheen on our memories. He challenges us to take off our rose-colored glasses and be critical with our past in order to “harness lessons for the future.”

In his second pearl, he addresses how mental health and well-being are a part of our personal and professional success. This past year and half, the mask has been lifted and we have been given the opportunity to “embracing our humanness” by acknowledge and talking about our feelings and making honest discoveries and connections.
