Oasis International School Celebrates Year One in Kuala Lumpur

Last August, Oasis International School (OIS) – Kuala Lumpur opened its doors for the 2018/19 inaugural school year. Anticipation has been building for years—throughout the three years of planning and construction of the beautiful 12-acre campus as well as for the past year of community events that focused on building relationships among OIS students and families before the school year began.
OIS Founding Head of School, Ben Hale, related the excitement of the opening day: "The first day of school is always exciting, but the first day at a new school is a great day in history! We are making history together. It has been a joy to see the Oasis International School community come together over the past few months through our community-building events. Our founding families have been incredibly supportive during the long building and preparation process, but it is obvious that the parents, students, and teachers are ready to see school start today! Go Eagles!”
Since then, the OIS student body has more than doubled in size, and the OIS community is looking forward to the future. As the first K–12 CrossFit Affiliate in Malaysia, with a 1:1 iPad program, and a growing Advanced Placement (AP) program, the school is excited to provide an authentic American school experience to the region.
OIS offers an American educational program in Kuala Lumpur staffed by U.S.-certified teachers that is designed to be academically challenging, integrated with cutting-edge technology, and centered on developing character in our students. With a family atmosphere, OIS offers a personalized learning experience that integrates a holistic approach and is based on the U.S. education model.
OIS is a member of Oasis International Schools, the Memphis-based Network of International Christian Schools. With schools in 16 countries around the world, the Oasis International Schools network is experienced at operating high-quality international schools in Asia, Africa, and South America. The network is excited to have established its first school in Malaysia.
As OIS completes its first school year, the future looks bright. OIS is expanding in both the elementary school and middle school for the 2019–2020 school year and is continuing to add programs that will enhance the student experience.
“It’s challenging but comfortable,” reflected Gabriel, a Grade 9 student. “Our teachers truly want to see us be successful and to help us think critically.” Oasis is a place where students can be challenged academically yet still have the opportunity to pursue areas about which they are passionate.
