Madeleine Hewitt Appointed NESA’s New Executive Director

It is with great pleasure and excitement that the Board of Trustees of the Near East South Asia (NESA) Council of Overseas Schools announces the appointment of Madeleine Hewitt as the next NESA Executive Director. Currently Director of the KAUST School in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Maddy will take office in the summer of 2017.
This appointment is the culmination of an extensive international search that began in August 2015 after David Chojnacki’s announcement that he will conclude nearly two decades of leadership as Executive Director of the organization in June 2017. The Search Committee—ably led by Rose Puffer, Vice President of the NESA Board and with professional support from Carney Sandoe & Associates—screened more than 50 candidates before unanimously agreeing that Maddy is a perfect fit to lead NESA into the next chapter of success.
Having worked in Saudi Arabia and Egypt for 15 years, Maddy knows the NESA region well, appreciates the vital role that NESA plays in international schools, and has felt firsthand the power of NESA’s mission, vision, and values. Maddy also has a deep knowledge of the cultures and geopolitics of the region. She is very excited at the prospect of leading NESA’s work for its member schools and affiliates.
Maddy is currently running one of the largest schools in the NESA region, with 1,460 students and 300 staff—an extremely complex institution nested within a larger university organization. A well-rounded individual who can relate to her fellow educators on many levels, Maddy is interested in diverse forms of outdoor activities, acting and directing, discussing books and philosophy, travel, entertaining and spending time with family. She lists as her accomplishments running four marathons (one in Athens) and leading students twice to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The NESA Board looks forward to working with David and the NESA Staff, who are committed to working hand in glove with Maddy over the next year and a half to insure a transition that is smooth, mission/vision-focused, and in the NESA tradition of providing sustained, systemic, and research-based professional learning opportunities for the NESA Family.
Please join us in welcoming Maddy as NESA’s new Executive Director.
"I am honored and excited to follow David Chojnacki as NESA’s next Executive Director. I look forward to building on NESA’s powerful legacy of leading innovative professional development, supporting collaborative partnerships, and nurturing that sense of community that is so powerful to NESA member schools, affiliates and learning partners."
— Madeleine Hewitt
