IAF: Fabulous in Flint, and it’s not the First Time

The International Academy of Flint (IAF) in Flint, Michigan, a member of the global SABIS Network, recently learned that it had earned the title of “Academic State Champion” from Bridge Magazine.
This is the third consecutive year that IAF has been recognized for its academic accomplishments by the magazine, and this year the school ranks fifth among the state’s charter schools and 15th out of 507 school districts across the state.
Despite operating in one of the most challenging communities in Michigan, IAF and its diverse student body continually beat the odds by achieving academic excellence.
To determine who would be among the “Academic State Champions,” Bridge Magazine partnered with Public Sector Consultants, Inc., a Michigan-based research and program management firm, and developed a value-added ranking system.
The system compares results on standardized tests with student family income levels factored in for each school, elements that are often predictors of academic achievement.
By comparing schools with similar socio-economic status and test scores, the rankings show schools that are champions in providing quality education.
“IAF is honored to be recognized again this year by Bridge Magazine,” commented IAF Director Kendra Giles. “We will use this recognition to continue raising the bar and expecting more from not only our students but staff as well. We are very proud of our staff and students and their commitment to being the best.”
IAF is one of 13 SABIS Network schools in the U.S. and has a current enrollment of 1,100 students in Grades K-12. As a top-performing, public charter school, IAF strives to close the achievement gap and place every student on the path to college.
Like all SABIS Network schools, IAF implements the SABIS Educational System, a comprehensive educational program that gives students a solid foundation of knowledge, essential life skills, and an edge for the future.
