The Queen Elizabeth Theater at the International School of Aberdeen (ISA) was formally opened by Her Majesty The Queen on Tuesday, 1 October 2013. In commemoration of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee and in recognition of Her Majesty’s grace and selfless dedication over the past 60 years the school has, by kind permission of The Queen, named its theater The Queen Elizabeth Theater.
To welcome Her Majesty to ISA, students representing 40 nationalities, many of whom wore their national dress, lined the main drive together with their parents and school staff.
Inside the School, Her Majesty visited two elementary classrooms, meeting pupils and teachers, before continuing to The Queen Elizabeth Theater to view a performance by the school’s fine arts students. Afterwards, Her Majesty unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion during a ceremony attended by the whole school community and invited guests.
ISA’s Director, Dr. Dan Hovde said, “We were delighted to be able to name our theatre The Queen Elizabeth Theater, and especially honored that Her Majesty visited the school to mark the occasion. Her Majesty’s visit was a memorable experience for the whole ISA community but particularly for our students, who come from all over the world.”
