Note from Shanghai: Take Time to Hula

All eyes on him, SCIS-Pudong’s “primo hularino” takes the troupe through its paces, as he and fellow Kindergarten students model the great Hawaiian dance form for a delighted audience (photo: SCIS-Pudong).

Early childhood students at Shanghai Community International School’s (SCIS) Pudong campus closed out one school year and rang in the next with a spectacular performance on the theme of “Summertime.”
The young students wowed the crowd, with songs and dances that had audience members singing along. Pre-school students disguised as frogs were beyond cute, as they performed the “Tadpole Wiggle” and “You are my Sunshine.” Pre-Kindergarten students sporting beach attire danced to the “Twist,” and sang the catchy tune, “Mr. Golden Sun.” Kindergarten students concluded the performance with a taste of the Hawaiian Islands, wearing traditional leis and performing Hawaiian songs and dances, including the hula.
The performance was a collaborative effort between classroom teachers and assistants and the rhythm and movement program—a program combining traditional physical education and music classes.
Following the production, parents and students mingled in the sun while enjoying a frozen treat. It was a fine showing from our talented young performers! l
