The Recruitment Season for Leading International Schools in ON!

In most nations the recruitment season for next year's teachers gets started in February or later. But in the leading, most established international schools, recruitment for next year starts this week, as they return to begin the new year. Why is this a growing phenomenon?
Experienced heads know that if they can cultivate candidates early on, checking credentials and using Skype for interviews, they have a tremendous advantage in getting the staff they want. The recruiting fairs are beneficial in that they bring together several hundred candidates in one location. But the competition for the best candidates is intense. Many get an offer on the first day and are required to accept it or lose it. One assumes (or hopes) that in these cases the checkouts were done before the fair!
If your school is not located in the most appealing city or country, or salaries/benefits are not in the top tier, real frustration is often in store for recruiters at fairs. And be sure of this: A really first rate candidate can get 5 or 6 offers, including from some of the highest profile schools with the best packages.
As a result of these realities, the wisest recruiters start early, find good candidates from online services like TIEonline.com. And the truth is that when a terrific candidate is contacted and interviewed early on, he is very likely to accept the offer.
Recruiting for many years as head of school in Israel and in Venezuela, I made sure every year to have half the vacancies we had, filled by December. In so many cases, we were able to take first rate candidates out of the market with an early courtship and offer. Most of them would have had 6 competing offers at a fair, and we would have lost them.
Within a few weeks, the aggressive recruitment policies used by a growing number of schools will be underway. If your school needs staff for next year, don't get left behind. And if you are looking for a new assignment, get your resume and recommendations into a web site like TIEonline.com, and let the early birds find you!
