William Powell of Education Across Frontiers Is Gone

We at TIE were devastated to learn of the passing of William Powell, a leading figure in international education and a true pioneer in urging schools to embrace inclusion. In extending our deepest condolences to his family, we are posting below the letter they shared on Thursday, 14 July via EAFnet.

Dear All,
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, William Powell, on the evening of July 11, 2016. Surrounded by his family: Ochan, Sean, Colin, Gulay, and Jenny and the grandchildren, Bill suffered from a sudden heart attack. In the week leading up to July 11, we had all gathered near Halifax, Nova Scotia, to unwind after a long year and to “make memories”. The four grandchildren, Ceren, Kerem, Dylan, and Sam brought laughter and love to Bill’s life. We had spent the afternoon of July 11 at the beach making sandcastles and had a wonderful family dinner.
Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out to us. Your messages of love and care continue to provide us with comfort and solace in our time of grief. We have created a Facebook page where we invite you to share photos, memories or anything that you are moved to share in order to celebrate Bill's life. The link is below:

Dear Ochan and Family,
Lisa and I send our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. We so very much enjoyed our week meeting you both at ISK in Krakow perhaps 6 or 7 years ago...and then subsequently in other places...perhaps Istanbul and KL. We loved your team interaction, your spirits, and your wisdom....which I am sure will continue to reach us. God has taken Bill a bit early....and indeed it is a blessing for dear Bill, but a grievous loss for those who remain. With warmest regards, Paul Lucas
