Search Associates Cambridge Fair a Success

For the last 25 years, Search Associates has hosted a major recruiting fair for the international school community in Cambridge, Massachusetts at the start of job-hunting season. Considered the "flagship" of all Search Associates fairs due to its long history of success for both candidates and schools, the event was originally launched by Founding Director John Magagna.
This year’s fair has attracted 423 pre-screened teachers, administrators, and intern candidates to the Boston area, along with 241 recruiters representing 128 international schools around the world looking to fill openings. Representatives from each institution have a chance to present their schools in the hope of attracting a good match.
Candidates benefit from workshops covering such topics as “Interview Tips” and “Moving Overseas and Loving It!” They also have scheduled meetings with Associates, who give them advice on finding their ideal job.
This year, the International Task Force on Child Protection co-hosted a Recruiting Practices workshop in collaboration with Search Associates. A separate workshop was held for administrators wishing to move into a Head of School position.
While a number of notable international school fairs are put on in the U.S. and Canada every year for worldwide recruitment by organizations, the Cambridge fair comes earlier in the recruiting cycle than many similar events, allowing both recruiters and candidates to get a jump on the process.
Thanks to both organized receptions and informal discussions among international educators over a cup of coffee in the lounge, the Cambridge fair offers attendees a chance to network. For those hoping to make their start in this field, it's a chance to get a good sense of the joys and challenges involved in teaching abroad.
Fair organizer and President of Search Associates Jessica Magagna comments:
"The Cambridge fair is one of the largest Search Associates has to offer. Historically, between 50 to 55 percent of our candidates accept an offer from the connections they have made during the fair. Our recruiters consistently commented on the high quality of the candidates in attendance which is due to the high level of screening our organization does prior to accepting any candidate as a member with Search Associates. Candidates felt supported by our Senior Associates and praised the organization and overall flow of the fair. At the end of the fair, 142 candidates accepted an offer which will most definitely increase over the next few weeks. Overall, we consider our 2016 Cambridge fair to be quite a success!”
