Concordia International School Shanghai’s Nicholas Kent Named to SSATB Board

Following its annual call for nominations process, the Secondary School Admission Test Board (SSATB) chose four members of the admission community to serve as the newest members of the board of trustees, including High School Principal Nicholas Kent of Concordia International School Shanghai.
SSATB is a nonprofit organization that administers the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) and is dedicated to supporting admission professionals around the world while advancing and adding value to the private school admission process for schools, students, and families.
The nomination process this year specifically targeted leadership in four strategic areas. John Kerney, Governance Committee Chair, noted: “I am pleased to say that we have identified four leaders who uniquely distinguished themselves in a competitive search process in the areas identified. Their nominations have been advanced by the board and I am confident that they will bring important new perspectives to serve our members in the coming years.” New trustees participated in an orientation and onboarding session at SSATB offices in April.
Nick has spent the past decade at Concordia International School, where he is currently the high school principal. Before moving to China, Nick was on the faculty of Seattle Preparatory School (WA), The Bullis School (MD), and The Culver Academies (IN). Having worked in domestic independent schools (both boarding and day) and in international schools, Nick brings a breadth of experience and an expansive perspective to the challenges and opportunities facing independent schools globally. Nick earned his B.A. and M.A. in history from Providence College, where he also was a Division I, four-year varsity letter winner in cross country and track & field. He is currently finishing his doctorate in educational leadership from Lehigh University.
Nick is joined by new board members Tim Fish, Associate Headmaster, McDonogh School; Whitney Soule, Director of Admissions, Bowdoin College; and Mark J. Mitchell, Vice President for School and Student Services by NAIS.
The process resumes this fall with the solicitation of additional trustees to replace those leaving the board. SSATB Executive Director Heather Hoerle remarked, “Our open nomination process continues SSATB’s commitment to inclusion and transparency with our membership. I’d like to thank all those who nominated candidates and the candidates themselves. We received so many outstanding applications and I am thrilled to welcome our new board members.”
